The Colombo Traffic Magistrate yesterday ordered five CCTV recordings obtained after examining 24 cameras to be sent to Moratuwa University for further tests to determine the circumstances into the accident at Rajagiriya involving a vehicle of Minister Champika Ranawaka.
The police informed that it was difficult to observe the driver or the number plate due to vehicle lights.
The Magistrate directed that Ranawaka be named a suspect if there was clear evidence after examining the CCTV footages.
Meanwhile, the Government Analyst said that the jeep which was involved in the accident had traveled at 15 km/h. The motorcycle had been traveling at 71km/h.
However, the Motor Vehicles Commissioner, through a report, said that the motorcycle was only allowed to be used for sports purposes.
Meanwhile, telephone recordings of five telephone lines belonging to Ranawaka revealed that one telephone had been present at the time, in the area where the accident occurred. However, Ranawaka's driver's side informed that this phone had been with the driver at the time.
The driver's phone was also found to be in the area at the time, the police said.
