Sri Lankan Test opener Kaushal Silva was struck by a ball on his head during training sessions in Pallekale, Sri Lanka Cricket said.
The cricketer was airlifted to Colombo following the accident.
Sri Lanka Cricket sources said Silva was out of danger. "But he remains under close medical watch, " the source added.
The preliminary Sri Lankan squad underwent a special training session at the Pallekele international cricket stadium ahead of the tour of England.
The 29 year-old ebuted for Sri Lanka in 2011 and has represented the country in 24 Tests. His batting average is 31.90 in Tests.
