Sri Lanka will sign the Paris Agreement on Climate Change today at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Minister of Science, Technology and Research Susil Premajayantha will be signing the agreement on behalf of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The Paris Agreement is an agreement within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) dealing with greenhouse gases emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance starting in the year 2020.
Around 150 countries are expected to sign the agreement today, making it a landmark event.
