The Sinhala and Tamil New Year auspicious times were prepared by late last year and therefore the sudden opposition to it is not justifiable, representatives of the Auspicious Times Committee told media recently.
The committee also rejected that the auspicious colours were selected according to the whims of the government, pointing out that the colors were decided on the day in which the auspicious times fell.
The new year fell on April 13 which is Wednesday, the day of Mercury, who is represented by the color green in astrology, they said. Similarly, the blue color was chosen for the auspicious times in anointing oil, because it fell on a Saturday. Blue is the colour of Saturn, they said.
