Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka's membership of the Constitutional Council would make the appointment of Senior DIG Pujitha Jayasundara as the IGP illegal, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya General Secretary Udaya Gammanpila claimed.

Speaking at a press conference this morning, Gammanpila claimed that Ranawaka is involved with four ongoing police investigations. Therefore he has a conflict of interest in the appointment of the IGP, Gammanpila argued.

Ranawaka is the President's representative of the Constitutional Council.

The CC yesterday recommended Jayasundera for the post of IGP.
