The Prisons Department today informed Colombo Magistrate Courts that the first suspect in the alleged kidney racket has escaped from the detention camp in Mirihana.

The Department has informed of the incident to the Controller of Immigration and Emigration, the department informed Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris.

The seven other suspects were produced before courts today.

Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris ordered the Colombo Crimes Division to inspect the camp and report on whether the suspects could be detained in the camp further.

The hearing was set for May 2.
