The Government Medical Officers' Association yesterday decided to collect signatures for a petition against the Prime Minister for his recent remarks in Parliament on the association.
This decision was taken during the Central Committee meeting of the GMOA. The committee expressed its unanimous opposition to the statement made by the Prime Minister.
During a recent speech in Parliament, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe strongly criticized the GMOA, saying that it was against the government because it represents the 'Rajapaksa regime'.
Wickremesinghe's opposition to the GMOA was based on its opposition to the proposed agreement with India, still under discussion. Wickremesinghe insisted that the government will enter into an economic and technical pct while the GMOA argued that the government was entering into a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The GMOA yesterday decided that it will continue its fight against the budget proposals and the CEPA.
The GMOA is scheduled to meet with President Maithripala Sirisena later this week.
