Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to make a special statement on the government's position regarding the demands of the trade unions.

Wickremesinghe held unsuccessful discussions with around fifty trade unions on Saturday on the budget proposals.

However, the unions decided to continue with their decision to launch a general strike on December 15, following the unsuccessful negotiations.
