The government will introduce a Special Commodity Tax through a Gazette Notification in twenty days, increasing the prices of essential commodities, UPFA MP Bandula Gunawardena said.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Gunawardena argued that the reduction of prices proposed in the budget cannot be seen in the market. The people have not gained the advantages of price reductions as claimed by the government, he said.
Gunawardena also said that the government will introduce a price mechanism for fuel from next year.
Since those who are recruited for the public sector will not be given a pension from 2016, the younger generation will be less inclined to join the government service, Gunawardena also claims. This will create a problematic situation in the future, he added.
