Former Colombo JMO Ananda Samarasekara today said that he was not responsible for the disappearance of the bone samples from the body of former Sri Lanka rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.

Filing a report with the Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishanta Peiris, Samarasekara said that he ordered several bone samples including a thigh bone and parts of the trachea to be preserved in a deep freezer in May 2012.

He added that he retired as Colombo JMO on June 3, 2013. When he had inspected the freezer under court orders, on September 30, 2015, the bones were found missing.

He also found that the freezer chamber had been replaced in the meantime, Samarasekara said in his report. Therefore, the displacement of the bone parts could have happened during this replacement, he added. It could also have been intentionally removed, he speculated.

However, he was unable to take any responsibility to what may have taken place following his retirement, the former Colombo JMO said.
