The Attorney General's Department is to recruit 31 State Counsel to expedite action on anti-corruption cases, sources from the department told Asian Mirror.
"For instance, the Police FCID has concluded investigations into a number of cases. They have sent their findings to the AG department seeking further instructions. But, the AG department dealt with a serious human capital issue. It made an adverse impact on certain anti-corruption cases," the official further added.
There was criticism that the AG Department was soft-pedalling certain investigations initiated by the Police FCID.
"We have done our best to complete the work at our end. There was no deliberate delay. However, we have decided to recruit 31 new State Counsel to fast-tract action from our end. It will also expedite certain anti-corruption investigations carried out by the FCID," he added.
There were reports earlier this month stating Parliament would summon the Attorney General Yuwanjana Wanasundera over ‘32 files’ containing criminal charges against individuals on which his Department is yet to take action,
