Assistant Solicitor General Vasantha Navarathna Bandara has sent a report to the Attorney General, informing that there is strong evidence against former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and four others on several allegations, reports said.
Accordingly, Rajapaksa, Avant Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi, Avant Guard Director Manjula Kumara Yapa, former Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Damayanthi Jayaratne, Rakna Lanka Military Liasons Officer Maj. Gen (retired) Palitha Fernando are the five individuals concerned.
There is strong evidence for allegations on importing and possessing arms without valid lisences and on aiding and abetting such importation and possession.
The ASG has made these recommendations upon the CID report on investigation in to the Avant Garde controversy.
They could be charged under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, Firearms Ordinance and Explosives Ordinance, the ASG reportedly recommended.
