A no-confidence motion against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake was handed over to the Speaker this afternoon by members of the 'joint opposition'.

Forty four MPs had placed their signatures in the motion.

The motion is based on the Finance Minister's alleged manipulation of figures to claim that the government was spending nearly 6 percent of its income for education.
