A group of Jaffna University students launched a protest near the university today, demanding the release of 'political prisoners' held across several prisons in the island.

They expressed their disappointment in the delay in releasing the prisoners.

The situation has deteriorated to a point where a student committed suicide to force the government to release the political prisoners, they said.
