November 18, 2015

Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya today ordered irrelevant documents to be removed from the case regarding the alleged theft of antiques from a house in Colombo 7.

This direction was given considering the statements by the lawyers of S.B. Dissanayake and the CID.

The lawyers of S.B. Dissanayake said that the aggrieved party filed documents to imply that their client was responsible for the alleged theft. Media reports implicating S.B. Dissanayake were based on these documents, his lawyers further maintained.

The CID said that it did not file any documents referred by the lawyers.

The Magisterial inquiry is being conducted on the alleged theft of antiques worth Rs 150 million from a house which was donated to the University of Colombo. On November 4, a lawyer appeared in courts representing S. B. Dissanayake and said that a mudslinging campaign against his client was underway regarding the case.

The Magistrate ordered CID to inform if Dissanayake was a suspect when the case is heard again today.

However, the CID today informed the courts that they were yet to receive instructions from the Attorney General on this.
