The Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) has commenced a ‘satyagraha’ today in Kiribathgoda, urging the government to fulfill several demands including abolition of the SAITM campus, Malabe.
IUSF Convener Lahiru Weerasekata told Asian Mirror that University of Peradeniya and University of Sabaragamuwa also would commence ‘Satyagraha’ campaigns on Thursday (18) and Friday (19) respectively.
There are three main demands of the IUSF, Weerasekara said. Abolition of SAITM campus, increase of the university intake percentage and putting an end to the collection of money from school students were these demands, he pointed out.
Weerasekara stressed that although the IUSF has sent several letters to the president and other relevant authorities asking for meetings with them to discuss those matters, they did not get any favorable response from them.
When asking about the progress of inquiries on the recent police attack on HNDA students, Weerasekara asserted that the authorities had not informed anything on those inquiries yet.
However, the authorities have recorded several statements from students, he added.
