The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and the Frontline Socialist Party are holding two 'November Heroes' Day' events this afternoon, to commemorate the 'fallen heroes' of the 1987-89 insurrection.
The JVP is holding the event at the Viharamahadevi Open Air Theatre in Colombo while the FLSP will hold their event at Ananda Samarakoon Open Air Theatre in Nugegoda.
The FLSP will also hold a protest at Fort Railway Station, demanding the release of its Central Committee Member Kumar Gunaratnam. The protest is scheduled to begin at mid-day.
Rohana Wijeweera, the founding leader of the JVP, was captured by the security forces and murdered in November 1989, effectively ending the insurrection.
