A navy cadet shot and killed a 26-year-old woman last night in Wewahamanduwa, Matara, before turning the gun on himself, police said.

The 26-year-old cadet, was attached to the Tangalle Navy Camp.

He reportedly used his T56 service rifle to carry out the shooting.

Police suspect that the murder was a result of a lovers’ quarrel.
