Minister of Southern Development Sagala Ratnayake is tipped to be appointed as Law and Order Minister following the resignation of Tilak Marapana, highly placed government sources said.

Meanwhile Minister of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs DM Swaminathan is tipped to be appointed as Prison Reforms Minister.

Ratnayake, a key ally of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, was elected to Parliament from Matara District at the August 17 election. Swaminathan was appointed through the national list.

The former Minister of Law and Order and Prison Reforms Tilak Marapana announced his resignation early this morning.
