Law and Order and Prison Reforms Minister Tilak Marapana has called for a special press conference at his residence in Nugegoda this morning, amidst the controversy regarding the Avant-Garde company.
Interestingly, this press conference coincides with the Special Cabinet meeting called by the President to discuss the same controversy.
Marapana received severe criticism for his comments in Parliament last week, when he said that the Police raided a Avant-Garde ship in January to "score points".
Meanwhile, he received another 'reprimand' when the Prime Minister overruled his decision to sack the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board Chairman Dr. Nilanga Samarasinghe last week.
There is serious speculation that Marapana will announce his resignation from his ministerial portfolio today. Several Cabinet Ministers were expected to demand for his resignation at the special Cabinet meeting.
