JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake wanted Frontline Socialist Party Central Committee member Kumar Gunaratnam deported in 2012 and helped in his 'arrest', former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa stated.
He has made this observation in an interview with 'Sath Handa' newspaper.
Rajapaksa said that Dissanayake insisted on Gunaratnam's 'arrest' since the Frontline Socialist Party was becoming a serious threat to the JVP.
Anura Dissanayake was not the leader of the JVP in 2012. He took the leadership of the party only in 2014.
However, there was a serious ideological dispute within the JVP for several years, which has led to several groups leaving the party. The Frontline Socialist Party broke away in 2011. Initially it was known as the 'People's Struggle Movement'.
Gunaratnam was abducted and later deported to Australia in April 2012. He later arrived in Sri Lanka on January 1, 2015. He was arrested by the Police on alleged Immigration and Emigration Law violation on November 4.
