Frontline Socialist Party held a protest in front of the Fort Railway Station, demanding the release of its Central Committee Member Kumar Gunaratnam, who was arrested on Wednesday, November 4, by the Kegalle Police.
Gunaratnam, was arrested while he was visiting his mother in Anguruwella, Kegalle.
The Kegalle Magistrate remanded him till November 18, rejecting a request for a deportation order made by Police. The Magistrate directed that the deportation was a decision that should be taken by the Cabinet and the relevant Minister. The Magistrate also considered arguments that he was named in the National List of the FLSP during the recent general election and that he was a Sri Lankan citizen.
Gunaratnam, who is currently an Australian citizen, has been asked by the Immigration and Emigration Department to leave the country. His visa expired on January 31.
