Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) Central Committee member Kumar Gunaratnam was remanded till November 18by the Kegalle magistrate today.
He was arrested earlier in the day by the Kegalle Police on alleged immigration and Emigration law violation.
Police wanted a court order to have Gunaratnam deported immediately.
However, Gunaratnam's lawyers argued that he was a Sri Lankan citizen and he should be allowed to stay in the country.
Considering this arguement, the magistrate directed that there was reason for a further inquiry and ordered Gunaratnam to be remanded.
