Mahajana Eksath Peramuna leader and UPFA MP Dinesh Gunawardena said that there was no one to claim responsibility for the attack on HNDA students on October 29 in Colombo, as the government was merely appointing committees to buy time.
Speaking at a press conference of the 'united opposition', Gunawardena pointed out that several committees have been formed to investigate the same issue, including a committee appointed by the Prime Minister and another appointed by the National Police Commission. However, the government should have taken the responsibility for the attack, he pointed out.
Police clashed with the HNDA students during a protest on October 29 at Ward Place, Colombo. The conduct of the police was severely criticized and condemned by many sectors in society, including some government ministers. However, police denied any wrongdoing.
