The Government Analyst Department will initiate an investigation on the weapons stored in the MV Avant-Garde ship in Galle today.

Officials of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC) carried out an inspection on the ship recently and called for a report from the Government Analyst.

The PRECIFAC officials found 816 weapons stored in the ship.

The ship was detained by the navy in October which carried out an initial investigation. It later asked the police to conduct an investigation on the ship.
