The National Freedom Front today called on the university students to join forces in a common front to fight for the rights of the people, since fighting alone will result only in a ruthless crackdown.
Speaking at a media conference today, UPFA MP Jayantha Samaraweera said that people belonging to many others sectors have been treated badly by the policies of the 'good governance' government.
Samaraweera argued that the government took its first step in the establishment of a police state by attacking the HNDA protest on Thursday.
Furthermore, he called upon the government to appoint a Higher Education Minister who is sensitive to the just demands of the university students.
Interestingly, the NFF used to be a constituent party of the former government of Mahinda Rajapaksa, when university students faced similar attacks on several occasions.
