The Sri Lanka Freedom Party is likely to distance itself from the National Freedom Front, Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya and Democratic Left Front at the forthcoming Local Government election, highly placed party sources told Asian Mirror.
When contacted by reporters, party General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake said they were the "original" coalition partners of the UPFA.
However, he said the party was willing to hold negotiations with parties that are ready to work together with the SLFP at the Local Government election .
"We will not talk with individuals. But, we are ready to discuss with political parties. If they can work together with the policies of the SLFP, we have no issue about contesting with them. But, other parties will not be able to override the opinion of the SLFP," the General Secretary explained.
