The Imaduwa-Kokmaduwa stretch of the Southern Expressway was closed once again due to the possible threat of rock falls due to heavy rain.
The stretch around the 114km post had been partially closed, with one side (from Matara towards Colombo) completely closed due to landslide threat. The Colombo to Matara side had been divided to allow bi-way traffic in the expressway.
The expressway was to be opened as usual after the strengthening of the nearby hill which was the source of the landslide threat.
However, the recent heavy rains have led to the closure of this stretch of the expressway.
Meanwhile, several areas in Galle and Matara districts were inundated due to heavy rains.
