The CID arrested UPFA Matale District MP Janaka Bandara Tennakoon a short while ago, to question over a murder incident in 1999.

He was arrested while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Colombo and remains in hospital under police guard.

Tennokoon was a People's Alliance MP at the time. He was first elected to the Parliament in 1994 under the PA ticket.

He was a staunch supporter of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa during the recent general election, and was re-elected to parliament.
