In a rain-wrecked game between Northamptonshire and Surrey, Sri Lanka’s star batsman Kumar Sangakkara scored yet another hundred, continuing his top form in the county season this year.
Arriving at the crease in his usual number three position, Sangakkara scored a Nelson, before being caught behind off the bowling of Steven Crook. He faced 186 deliveries and scored 11 boundaries in his innings.
Sangakkara’s century came in 241 minutes in 174 balls faced with 10 boundaries.
The first day of the match was washed out and Northamptonshire could face only 28 overs in the second day. Northamptonshire was bowled out for 309 on day three, Rob Newton top scoring with 95.
In reply, Surrey was 155 for three at the end of Day 3, with Sangakkara not out on 28 and Steven Davies on 30. Davies was dismissed for 44 with the score on 202, which brought Jason Roy to the middle. Sangakkara and Roy put on 160 for the fifth wicket before Sangakkara lost his wicket.
Roy was later dismissed for 140.
As the day came to a close, the two sides agreed to end the game. Surrey were 499 for 6, with Gary Wilson on 74 and Gareth Batty on 19.
