England seamer James Anderson will miss the entirety of the upcoming ODI series in Sri Lanka, the English and Wales Cricket Board have confirmed.
The 32-year-old will not be part of Peter Moores' touring party as he bids to recover from a knee injury and force his way back into the side in time for next year's World Cup.
England, who have declined to call up a replacement as of yet, play the first of seven limited-overs games against Sri Lanka when the teams meet in Colombo on November 26.
An ECB statement read: "James Anderson has been ruled out of the upcoming one day tour to Sri Lanka to continue his rehabilitation on a pre-existing left knee injury.
"Anderson experienced some knee discomfort during the summer and in preparation for the ICC Cricket World Cup will undergo a graded return to bowling programme over the next two months.
"Anderson's return to bowling programme will include a period in South Africa in December with the England Performance Programme in preparation for the tri-series against Australia and India and the ICC Cricket World Cup.
"At present Anderson will not be replaced in the squad for the Sri Lanka tour."
With England's other first-choice opening bowler Stuart Broad ruled out by a knee injury of his own, Steven Finn, Harry Gurney, Chris Jordan, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes will do battle for selection.
