Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the upcoming Champions League T20. The skipper of the defending champions Mumbai Indians had suffered a finger injury during the ODI series in England and has also endured a further shoulder problem that will keep him out of the tournament.
According to a report on ESPNcricinfo, Rohit Sharma was ruled out after thorough assessments from physiotherapists and there remains a doubt whether he will be fit in time for India's home series against the West Indies, starting on October 8.
Mumbai Indians, who finished fourth in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League, will feature in the qualifiers that commence on September 13. The main tournament begins from September 17.
When Rohit had endured his injury, there was speculation doing the rounds that Mumbai Indians will turn to their West Indian star Kieron Pollard to lead the side. However, with the likes of Lasith Malinga, Harbhajan Singh (who led them to a CLT20 2011/12 triumph) in the side, it remains to be seen who will eventually lead the Mumbai side.
Mumbai Indians are grouped alongside Lahore Lions (Pakistan), Southern Express (Sri Lanka) and Northern Districts (New Zealand) in the qualifying stage and begin their campaign against the Mohammad Hafeez-led Lahore side on September 13.
