Sri Lanka’s cricket legend Mahela Jayawardene ended his last Test innings a short while ago. He was dismissed for 54 when he gave a catch to Ahmed Shehzad off the bowling of Saeed Ajmal at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo.
With both Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara back in the pavilion early in the day, Pakistan has started the fourth day of the match with a high note.
Jayawardena faced 137 deliveries in his last innings, and scored 8 boundaries.
In a Test career spanning 17 years, Mahela has played 149 Test matches (with the current one). In 252 innings, he has amassed 11,814 runs at an average of a shade under 50. He has piled up 34 centuries and 49 half centuries. His 374 in July 2006 against South Africa is the highest Test cricket score by a right handed batsman. In this innings, also played at the SSC, he and his best buddy Kumar Sangakkara put on a record breaking 624 run partnership, the highest for any wicket in Tests or First Class cricket.
Mahela, also a safe fielder, has taken 202 catches for now, many in the slips. He has one more innings to field in which to increase that amount.
