The Inter Regiment Volleyball Championship and Inter Battalion Netball Championship - 2017 organized by the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) were held during 23-25 June at both Panagoda Army Cantonment Indoor Stadium and Maharagama, National Youth Council premises.
The finals of the tournament and prize awarding ceremony took place on Sunday (25) with the participation of the SLAVF Commandant, Major General Boniface Perera as the Chief Guest at the Maharagama, National Youth Council premises.
The 6 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) team secured the championship in the Inter Battalion Netball tournament held at the Indoor Stadium Complex, Panagoda while the 2 (V) SLAWC team and 3 (V) SLAWC team secured Runners-up and 2nd Runners-up slots respectively.
During the Inter Regiment Volleyball Women’s competition 6 (V) SLAWC secured the Championship. The Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) team became the Runners-up in the competition while the 2 (V) SLAWC players achieved the 2nd Runners-up slot. 6 teams participated in the competition.
13 teams competed under the Men’s category in Group A in Volleyball. Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE), Gajaba Regiment (GR) and Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
During the Super League round, 8 teams competed and Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) team was crowned as the champions. Corps of Engineer Service (CES) team and SLAGSC team were adjudged second and third place achievers respectively.
In parallel to this programme, the achievers of the 5 S competition held in the battalions, training institutions and branches of the SLAVF were also felicitated in the same prize awarding ceremony on Sunday (25).
19 (V) SLLI was felicitated as the best battalion of the SLAVF while 15 (V) Gemunu Watch (GW) and 5 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) were awarded 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
General Staff Branch of the SLAVF won the best branch certificate in the 5 S competition and several institutes and establishments under the SLAVF HQ were also awarded appraisal certificates.
Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force takes great pride and effort to stage these events annually. The championship is conducted under the rules and regulations recognized internationally with the stewardship of a panel of judges recognized by the governing bodies of both sports in Sri Lanka.
