Nobody participate in a race with intention to murder states motorsports rider Suraj Perera who faced a fatal crash with fellow motorsports rider Ananda Wedisinghe. He stated this at a discussion held by Sports 1st. The panel included many prominent motorsports riders. Suraj further added that social media should not speculate assumptions.
Meanwhile prominent rider, Dilantha Malagamuwa emphasized that though motorsport accidents are inevitable but conducting discipline of the game is a must. He further stated that prohibiting the race is not the correct solution.
While taking a turn in the Group SM 450cc class at the Nuwara Eliya Road Race held on April 22 and 23 this year, the two riders Ananda Wedisinghe and Suraj Perera attempted to overtake each other before crashing and hitting the sidelines. Both riders were hospitalised for treatment.
Unfortunately rider Ananda Wedisinghe who sustained serious injuries passed away. Some suspected foul play over the accident and some were with the view that organizers were at fault. Sports Ministry has started an inquiry regarding the accident.
