In the second game of Monday's double-header, Sri Lanka romped home to an effortless eight-wicket win over Nepal to pick up their first points in the competition.
Set to chase a moderate 24 for their maiden win in two games, new skipper Hasini Perera slammed a quick 17 to help her team across the line with eight wickets and more than 15 overs to spare. Nepal skipper Rubina Chhetry got an early wicket as former skipper Chamari Athapaththu edged to Indu Barma off the final ball of the first over. Fellow opener Yasoda Mendis fell in the fourth over, with her team just three shy of the winning mark but Perera polished off the chase without any further damage.
That Nepal would be in trouble against an international bowling line-up was never under question, but their inexperience was highlighted yet again as seven of their batters failed to open their account against the left-arm spinners Inoka Ranaweera (3 for 3) and Sugandika Kumari (3 for 7). The duo starred with the ball and ran through the Nepalese line-up to shoot them out for a sub-par 23. Nepal seemed in a relatively better position at 20 for 3 after half their overs but with the spinners coming on, runs became difficult. That score soon became 23 for 8 in next five overs and the final two fell without any addition to the total. Jyoti Pandey top scored with 16 for the losing side.
Brief scores: Nepal 23 all out in 16.2 overs (Jyoti Pandey 16; Inoka Ranaweera 3-3, Sugandika Kumari 3-7) lost to Sri Lanka 24/2 in 4.3 overs (Hasini Perera 17*) by eight wickets.
