Mahela Jayawardene Replaces Ricky Ponting As Mumbai Indians’ Head Coach In IPL

Mahela Jayawardene, who has played the role of a batting consultant for England last year, will turn full-time coach when he takes charge of former Indian Premier League champions Mumbai Indians from the upcoming season.

Former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene will replace Ricky Ponting as head coach of Mumbai Indians. Ponting’s two-year was not extended by the MI management.

Mahela Jayawardene is an IPL veteran, having played for Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab. The 39-year-old T20 international match against India in Dhaka in April 2014.

The right-handed batsman remains an active cricketer. Last week, he turned out for Dhaka Dynamites in the Bangladesh Premier League, scoring 11. Jayawardene scored an unbeaten century (117) for Somerset in Royal London One-Day Cup match against Worcestershire on August 17.
