Chief Selector for the Sri Lankan team Sanath Jayasuriya and senior player Mahela Jayawardena have extended their support to Sachithra Senanayeka who was accused of 'bowling with a wrong action' by the International Cricket Council (ICC), and was subsequently banned from international cricket.
'We all are with Sachithra on this case. As a nation we all are with him. I am sure he will follow which #ICC has recommended. He will be ok,' Jayasuriya tweeted this morning.
Meanwhile former Sri LAnkan captain Mahela Jayawardena also extended his support to Sachithra Senanayake via a twitter post. 'We all are behind Sachi as a team. He will go through the protocol which #ICC has recommended . I am sure he will be ok.' Jayawardena tweeted.
Senanayake was initially warned by the umpires and thereafter reported to the ICC during the Sri Lanka tour of England this June. With that report the ICC requested the Sri Lankan off-spinner to go through organic testing at the Cardiff Metropolitan University on June 29.
As the results proved that Sachithra Senanayake was bowling beyond the legal limitations the ICC banned him from international cricket with immediate effect, until he corrects his bowling action or changes his bowling style.
