Surrey Extend Kumar Sangakkara's Contract

September 24, 2016

Kumar Sangakkara, the former Sri Lankan captain, resigned with the English county club Surrey on Friday (September 23) for a one-year period. The new deal will see Sangakkara in action for another season in the county circuit through to the end of the 2017 season.

"Surrey CCC are very pleased to announce that Kumar Sangakkara has signed a new one-year contract for the 2017 season," Surrey's official Twitter account declared on the micro-blogging site.

The 39-year-old retired from international cricket last August and has since been playing franchise cricket all over the world. He then penned a one-year agreement with Surrey before the start of the 2015 season.

Sangakkara has amassed 1,039 runs at an average of 49.47 in the County Championship this season. He also made sure that the side remains in Division One as they were struggling at one stage of the season.
