After playing a nerveless knock that has left the third and final Test in the balance, the Sri Lankan debutante Kusal Perera said his team is confident of scoring a victory in the third and final Test match here. 

 

“When I went to bat, there were a few nerves. It was 45/5. My role was to score as many runs as possible. That’s what I tried to do,” Perera said at the post match press conference.

 

“In that position, I had to play like that. I had to take some calculated risks and just did that. Rangana (Herath) made it easy for me, because by blocking up an end, I was able to go for shots. There wasn’t much pressure on me. I wasn’t afraid to give him the strike because he was batting well,” added the 25-year-old wicket-keeper batsman.

 

Perera said a couple of early strikes in the morning session would tilt the match in their favour completely. 

 

“There is a big chance to win, because we have them three down. The morning session is crucial for us. If we get 2 or 3 wickets, there’s a good chance,” he concluded.
