Political Parties Reach Last Minute Agreement On 19th Amendment

The government and SLFP arrived at an last minute agreement to include both MPs and independent members in the Constitutional Council which is to be established under the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.

Final agreement has not been reached on the composition of the council. However, informed sources said that it is most likely to be a fifty-fifty combination of MPs and independent members.

With this agreement, the vote on the 19th Amendment to the Constitution is likely to be taken at 1.00pm.
