UPFA MP Tissa Karalliyadda stated that he has resigned as Deputy Minister of Buddha Sasana and Democratic Governance.
Speaking to local media, Karalliyadda said that he sent the letter of resignation to the president last evening. He further said that he took the decision due to interferences by senior ministers of the UNP.
Karalliyadda took oaths as Deputy Minister on March 22 with a number of SLFP MPs when the national government was formed. However, he did not assume duties as deputy minister and was described as being “on the fence” in taking a decision.
Karalliyadda stated several days ago that he has to speak to his supporters before taking a decision. However, at that time, he refuted claims that he was definitely stepping down, adding that rumors were being circulated by several regional politicians.
