Lal Wickrematunge recently expressed confidence that a systematic investigation is being carried out into the murder of his brother, former editor of Sunday Leader Lasantha Wickrematunge.
Lal Wickrematunge arrived at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Wednesday (31) in order to give a statement on the murder of his brother.
Speaking to media afterwards, he said that there was hope that the justice will be served to Lasantha and his family members.
Replying a question raised by media Lal Wickrematunge expressed hope that CID will do further investigations about the murder of his brother after comparing both his and former Minister Mervin Silva’s statements.
Recently, former minister Mervyn Silva told Criminal Investigations Department that former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa was involved in the killing of former editor of Sunday Leader Lasantha Wickrematunge.
He stated that Gotabaya Rajapaksa intensely hated Wickrematunga and knew about the incident. Rajapaksa acts on gossip that reaches his ears, Silva added.
Lasantha Wickrematunge was assassinated on January 8, 2009 by four assailants who stopped him on his way to his office at Attidiya.
