Wele Suda To Appear In Courts Today

Gampola Vidanalage Samantha Kumara alias Wele Suda, who is in custory over heroin smuggling will be produced to courts today, media reports said. He will appear in courts to face a case filed by the Attorney General at Colombo High Court.

He has been charged on earning at least Rs 170 million in a six month period from 2010 January to 2010 June.

Wele Suda was brought to Sri Lanka on January 12 after his arrest in Pakistan. He is now kept under three month detention while being questioned.

It was earlier reported that Wele Suda has named several people including politicians and police officers who had assisted him in his smuggling business. On January 27, Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana confirmed that Wele Suda had paid large sums of money to parliamentarian Duminda Silva perhaps as "protection money."
