Shantha Dodangoda, a supporter of Maithripala Sirisena who was shot at an election rally in Kahawatta, succumbed to his injuries.
It was the first fatality of the presidential election of 2015.
Three people were injured following the shooting incident and they were admitted to the hospital. This is the second shooting incident which took place during election rallies of the opposition since the commencement of campaigns.
Eye-witnesses told the Police that the Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekera was directly involved in the shooting incident. Pelmadulla Magistrate ordered to arrest the Deputy Minister and two others in connection with the incident.
Police sources told Asian Mirror on Wednesday evening that the Deputy Minister had already left the area.
