UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Preadasa said plans were afoot to display a “mud-slinging” poster across the country saying he had extended support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
In a letter to the Elections Commissioner yesterday, Premadasa had requested ‘media time’ to clear the air on this matter in the face of a development of that nature.
The UNP Deputy Leader said he was committed to the core to ensure the victory of Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena and had no intention to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
He said he received credible information that this “mud-slinging” poster would be displayed across the country just a day before the presidential election.
Premadasa said he was a politician who had utmost respect to values and principles, and he would never betray the party and its supporters by switching allegiance.
Meanwhile, speaking to Asian Mirror, former UNP Parliamentarian and Uva PC Opposition Leader Harin Fernando said he would never join the government and the rumour was entirely baseless. He assured that none of the prominent leaders of the Common Opposition would cross over to the government.
