While sending a reminder to President Mahinda Rajapaksa asking him to be participated in a debate on the Rule of Law, Independence of the Judiciary, Good Governance, elimination of corruption and democracy, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka announced that so far only Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena had accepted the invitation extended by them.

The BASL stated that on December 22, it had sent invitations to both main presidential candidates to engage in a public debate on above topics which are subjects that affect the people.

In response, Mr. Maithripala Sirisena had agreed to hold the debate January 5.

Meanwhile, the BASL stated that it was in a position to arrange both participants via Skype or Satellite Link if their schedules do not permit them to participate in the debate.The BASL further asked president Rajapaksa to suggest a date and time suitable to him in between January 3 to January 5.

The propaganda activities with regard to the presidential election have to be concluded on January 05.
