Several regional politicians crossed over to both the government and the common opposition yesterday.

Four members of the Pachchilaippalli Pradeshiya Sabha including its Chairman Dominic Anton announced their decision to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a press briefing in Vavuniya. They are all TNA members. Their decision came a day after the TNA joined the common opposition officially.

Meanwhile 20 local politicians from Kurunegala District joined the common opposition. They included eight members of Nikawaratiya Pradeshiya Sabha, Two members of Kobeigane Pradeshiya Sabha and eight members from Narammala, Alawwa, Udubaddawa and Panduwasnuwara Pradeshiya Sabhas. The latter eight have been supporters of Dayasiri Jayasekera.

Furthermore, 5 members of the National Freedom Front including a former secretary of Minister Wimal Weerawansa joined the opposition.
