Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama, who was released on bail by the Baddegama Magistrate yesterday, said Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana is a parakeet.
The Deputy Minister said the Police Media Spokesman was making irresponsible statements to media over the incident in Wandurama where he stormed a police station and allegedly ‘kidnapped’ a few suspects who were in police custody.
Muthihettigama, a controversial politician from the district of Galle said, there was a conspiracy to imprison him by making false allegations. Speaking to a local radio station on Tuesday, He accused the Police of being part of the same conspiracy.
“When I am out of the picture, it affects the President’s election campaign in Galle,” the Deputy Minister said. When asked as to why he left for Singapore all of a sudden, the Deputy Minister said he needed a rest as he was heavily involved in the campaign.
He said no body from the ruling party spoke to him after the incident, except President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
“The President spoke to him and said the court would resolve the matter. I trust him,” Mutuhettigama said when he was contacted by the radio station. He also pledged that he would do his best to ensure the victory of President Rajapaksa.
Speaking on the same matter, Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said the Police was merely acting according to the law of the country and Muthuhettigama too was equal before the law of the land.
