Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama, who had earlier left the country despite being on an arrest warrant, has been arrested at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport, upon his return from Singapore.
The Deputy Minister will be produced before the Negombo Magistrate.
He had left the country in early hours of December 26 on flight number SQ468 from the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayaka.
Baddegama Magistrate Court on Wednesday (24) ordered the Police to arrest Nishantha Muthuhettigama. He was accused of damaging and burning the stage of a Common Opposition meeting in Wandurama, along with a group of his supporters.
However, Police was unable to arrest him as he had left the country from the VIP lounge in BIA.
Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana had told media that he will be arrested upon his return. Meanwhile Muthuhettigama’s wife had reportedly told local newspapers that he will return within a few days.
